C-47s over Normandy.  In order to assist in opening the front on "Fortress Europa," troops and cargo parachuted from C-47s into the combat zone at Normandy, France.  Some 13,000 glider troops and paratroopers were inserted during the night ahead of the seaborne landing troops who went ashore from amphibious landing craft at the first light of day on 6 June 1944.
