About the Painting

One of the most successful and popular military tactical aircraft in aviation history, the Skyhawk was a product of a Douglas study to reduce complexity, weight and cost of attack aircraft without sacrificing performance and reliability.  Since the prototype XA4D-1 first took to the skys on 22 June 1954, nearly 3,000 Skyhawks were built for the military. The last Skyhawk to be produced rolled off the assembly line in 1979.

This pencil drawing depicts the first A-4D-1 to the last A-4 in production, the A-4M.
