About the Painting Introduced by Douglas in 1935, the DC-3 Transport, in military colors as the C-47 and C-53, saw the most extensive service in every conceivable supply, courier and assult role in each theater of operations. The C-47 established a reputation with U.S. and Allied forces as the "workhorse" transport of WWII. Gen. Eisenhower considered it one of the major contributors to the eventual Allied victory. This painting depicts the Skytrain flying supplies from India into China "over the hump." |
