The YC-15 was designed as a medium sized, STOL (short takeoff or landing) airlifter for the requirements of the U.S. Air Force.  Due to budget restrictions, only two were built.  However, the technology learned from this vehicle\'s design and flight testing was transferred to the McDonnell Douglas C-17.
