First American strike in Vietnam.  This painting depicts Cmdr. Stockdale\'s air strike over Vinh, NVN as he remembered it and as it was related to "R.G."  Since the painting was to be reproduced as a Limited Edition print, the publishers felt that artistically there was too much black smoke which detracted asthetically from the viewer.  R.G. subsequently re-painted the event and titled it  "Operation Pierce Arrow."   It was published in 1990 as a  Limited Edition print.   Of the two paintings, this on still remaind Stockdale's favorite and the one representing the event the way he remembered it "right down to the red roof and the billowy black smoke."
